Who'd a thunk that I'd be actually making a little money off of a whim hobby! I started making fonts because there were so many out there that, to me, looked incomplete, or I just couldn't find the look I wanted.

I uploaded two fonts within the last couple months online and never thought I'd see such a frenzy over them. Happy Serif was the one I labored over for nearly a year. Happy Sans [link] was a derivative of Happy Serif and only took me a few hours to do. Here's the crazy part - Happy Sans is rapidly becoming my "most downloaded" font online across the entire web - and I've been getting several requests to use the font commercially as well! From fledgeling businesses, to art colleges, to designers...it still wierds me out sometimes!

It just goes to show, you never know what the public is going to latch on to. I considered Happy Sans, more or less, a throw-away bonus...now it's bringing me a fair bit of attention. Who knows whether that scrap you posted on a whim will become your next major drawing card or the start of a business you never considered before?

That's one of the reasons I love DevArt so much! It's a great place to get feedback from other people who know what they're talking about and get inspired by others. They may see something in your work that you never noticed or never would have thought of before! It's great!

Here's to many more creative "accidents"! :D

It's all good, though. People seem to be enjoying my fonts thus far (few as they are, don't worry, I'm working on more on the side).

A few months back, I recieved an e-mail from someone in France asking if they could use my Petal Glyph font in their cosmetics line called "Melvita", but they gave me 3 days to respond. I didn't get the e-mail until the third day...

I gave the standard response for commerical usage and never heard back from them. Well, today, I was Googling around and I found out that the usage was part of a competition for the company logo RE-design in launching their upcoming cosmetic line. Sadly, it did not win, however this was the submission using my font.

I think it turned out fairly well, but can see why they didn't go with it in the end based on viewing the other submissions. I do think it would have been kinda cool, however, to be able to have said that one of my fonts was used by a French cosmetics company... :D

...Ah well!

To all my American friends... have a happy Thanksgiving. May your turkey be tasty and the calories light!

And to those of you crazy enough to get up before the butt-crack of dawn to hit those sales tomorrow... the best of luck! Don't get trampled in the herd! :p

Worked on a project with a friend earlier this year designing the artwork for it and performing on it (vocals, keys/synth/programing). You can check out the album here. [link]

PS. Might be available on iTunes later this year... :)
In the middle of March, I was featured in [link] Dwalker1047's Journal. It was an honor and kinda cool. Check it out!
